The Microsoft MCTS 70-500 Windows Mobile 5.0 Design, Implementation, and Maintenance certification exam covers the configuration of Windows Mobile 5.0 interface devices and their interoperability with other Microsoft platform software. It is generally aimed at candidates who are interested in mobile devices and Windows compatibility in smart phones and PDA devices. It is part of the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist track, so passing this exam will qualify you as a MCTS certified individual.

[edit section] Difficulty and Scope

The Microsoft MCTS 70-500 exam is one of the easier Microsoft exams in the MCTS series as it only covers topics related to Windows Mobile 5.0, which are limited in scope. It is one of the few MCTS tests in which extensive hands-on experience with the software tested on is not absolutely required for success. It is also one that requires significantly less preparation time. The topics on the exam include provisioning for mobile devices, integration with Exchange server, configuring mobile infrastructure, and managing networks and network connectivity, especially with regard to messaging services. Since the scope and range of topics is limited, you will find that this is an easier exam than most.

[edit section] I’m going to take the 70-500! Now what?

First, you will need to determine if it is really feasible for you to take the certification exam. Not everyone has the time to set aside to study for this exam, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that you should have at least 45 hours available to prepare for this exam, although anywhere from 30 to 75 hours would be a reasonable estimate of time required to prepare. For this reason, we would highly suggest that you have at least a month or two available to really prepare for the exam. Next, once you have set the time aside, you should probably schedule a date to take the exam with VUE or Prometric. Finally, use ProProfs resources in addition to your own study materials to prepare for the exam. We wish you the best of luck in your studies!
