Hello all,

I'm currently working for a University in their IT department. The problem is that I don't feel like I can advance at all in my IT career working here because there's just not enough positions to move up to. Plus the commute is really expensive due to public transportation. I've been looking for IT jobs closer to where I live and what's fustrating is that they all are contract to hire. I can't afford to take the risk of working on a 6 month contract hoping that they hire me because of rent, car payment, student loans. etc. Why does it seem every IT job out there is contract or long term contract with no promise of hiring permanently. All I get is calls from recruiters offering me temp positions and I don't want that. Is this pretty much how IT is staffing now a days?

thank you
