Hey everyone, Im Curtis, 21 years old. Wanting to get my CompTIA A+ Certificate. At the moment, i am very lost on the subject, i have looked round but as seeing many differents studying techniques and stuff i'm confused.

I am certified in Cisco Systems: IT Essentials

All as i have at the moment is:
CompTIA A+ Complete Deluxe Study Guide (PDF File)
Sybex (Wiley Publishing, Inc.), with Flashcards, Test Engine and Various Videos.

I Was wandering if someone who has done the course recently, could maybe through Email/Facebook/MSN or whatever, could maybe guide me through it a bit, advise me on what manuals to read, and what videos to watch.. Any help really would be very much apreiciated.

Hi Curtis, might be able to help with a couple of resources.

First, you might want to make sure you have a copy of the exam objectives, there are two exams for the A+.

CompTIA A+ 220-701 Essentials

CompTIA A+ 220-702 Practical Application

Probably the best set of videos available are those put out by Professor Messer. Quality work, covers the objectives well, and they're free.

Just arrived took me 52 years but i'm on my game. just need to certify all these years and chasing that dream now.   thanks for this site it rocks. Lots of practice stuff, you know old dog lots of tricks

I Was wandering if anyone could help me out on a Lessonplan sort of thing, like:

Day1: Read chapter 1, watch chap1 vids, do asessments
Day2: read chapter 1 and 2, watch 2 vids, etcetc..

Like a few hours each day.. or something similiar.. If im not explaining my self well, please say

That's going to be hard for someone else to do. Each person will study at different paces and intensities.

I like to break it down to the number of chapters I have to cover, read through one chapter the first day, then use the second day for review, maybe squeeze in the corresponding videos, and try a few practice questions to evaluate how well I took it all in.

Invariably, it won't go that easily. There are going to be times that you need additional review, or midway through the process, you simply need a break.

Just set yourself some modest goals and do your best to stick with them. It won't be the end of the world if you take a little extra time, just so you don't burn yourself out. And if you find yourself stumped on any of the topics, Google's great, but don't be afraid to ask someone either.

Ok, thanks again for great reply.. I have no yet currently started properly, as im finding what material to read, the Professor Messer's videos are great, so i'm going to Read 1 Chapter, try and watch the same  Videos aswell.. Then slowly move onto chapter two. Im going to work a season bar working, therefore i'll have spare time to Watch vids and Red the Manual. After the season ends my plans are to start college in UK, Hoping to have the manual and videos pretty well Learnt. i'll start more practical stuff and think about exams. Thanks again for the help

I agree with that! I will check out those videos mentioned. I have been reading MikeMeyer's A+ book. I work at a computer store as the retail guy but I LOVE working with computers and am majoring as IT Specialist and want career as IT guy on base. Thanks for all the great (and free) information. Makes me less nervous about taking the exams.
