So I've just started studying for the Security+ Exam a couple weeks ago. I have gone through the entire, Security+ Study Guide, only got a couple of the practice questions wrong, and I generally found the material fairly easy to swallow. Mind you I have a Computer Science degree (although it is mainly in programming: I have very little (if almost no) Networking or Security experience), but I do not have any certifications (this will be the first I am trying to get).

Naturally I felt ready to take the Practice Test I. Afterall, the guide says "It is our expectation that this guide will have all the materials necessary to excel in the Security+ exam." So I took the practice test and wow ... I did horribly. There were SO many questions on there that asked stuff that simply wasn't on the study guide of this site, and I ended up getting less then half of them right ...

Is it really true that the study guide on this site covers EVERYTHING that could possibly be on the Security+ Exam? Because it sure doesn't seem like it at all! If anyone here could point me to any other useful resources, or perhaps suggest a good study book for the Security+ Certification, please let me know.

I don't think I ever used the study guide on this site while I was studying for my Security+, so I can't confirm on its breadth.

Books I used:
http://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Security-Cer...7166&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Eleventh-Hour-Securi...7124&sr=8-1

Both turned out to be great resources.  The Get Ahead book series also has another book you can get that includes practice tests.

Speaking of the Study Guide, check out this question from the Network Overview:

QUOTE
3. Which of the following are not application services or servers? (Choose all that apply)
a. Proxy Server
b. Email Server
c. Web Server
d. DMZ Server
e. ARP Server
f. DHCP Server

On the page it says the answer is D, E, & F ... but it later says that DHCP Server is part of the Network Layer. However, every other source I've checked says its part of the Application Layer. Which layer is DHCP apart of? If it is part of the Application Layer, doesn't that make it an application server?

So ... just last weekend I passed my Security+ exam with a score of 836! :D

Thank you Insomnia for mentioning those books. I pretty much just studied the Study Guide book, and what do you know, it was all I needed to pass!
