How about a free (yes, free), online video course. Just go to;
www.freeaplus.com
It's by James Messer. He covers all the objectives and is about 20 some hours long. He makes his money if you want to buy the course and have a hard copy, but do it on line and it's free. He also has a Network+ course if you need that in the future.
The book I liked and used is by Mike Meyers, called A+ Certification Passport. It is about a third the size of his all-in-one book.
And of course, this site is also great.

This is fantastic, thank you Spy. I'm much better at learning through visuals/listening than digging through 1000 page books!

This is great information, thanks Spy. I'm a much more visual/auditory learner. Videos will be much easier than sifting through 1000 page texts!
