Hi everyone,
My name is Steve and I'm new to the forum. I found this looking to discuss the MCAS exams. This Excel test was my second one. I got a great score on my Word test but not so much on this one lol. I passed but it was by a narrow margin. I can absolutely concur with the person that said the questions were written in a very weird way and asked weird things of you. I think they probably want people to fail so they have to pay to retake it. I'm not sure which materials prepare people to deal with these Microsoft idiosyncratic tests but whatever they are I recommend them! I encourage people to go for partial credit on certain questions if they can't do every little weird thing they ask. I also think people should be totally up for skipping questions and coming back to them. No need to waste time. I feel I have many skills in Excel that were not even tested in this exam whatsoever! I'm glad I passed but the test was definitely weird.

Hello everybody.  I'm now certified in Excel 2007.

If any one has any questions about the exam  just let me know!

A few weeks ago I obtained an MOS Expert Excel Certification in 2003 and several months ago I obtained MOS Excel Specialist Certification in 2003.

Of the three of then, I finished Excel 2007 the quickest and obtained the highest score.

MOS Excel 2003 Specialist - Questions were mainly about formatting data, collaborating etc.

MOS Excel 2003 Expert - This was very hard.  I reviewed things like Pivot tables, data validation, DSUM for months before sitting for the exam. I passed the exam with a minute to spare. and just barely acheived a passing grade.

MCAS Excel 2007 - It was only later that I found out about the MCAS Excel 2007 exam and figured what the hey I'll try for this one as well.

The content was not as sophisiticated as Excel 2003 Expert but it all came down to timing and most of the questions had to do with the Ribbon.

I think Excel 2007 is fundamentally the same as Excel 2003 - HOWEVER - the way you do things are different, and that's what they're looking to test you on.

As for whether I'd ever use the features in real life - I say absolutely! Pivot Tables, Conditional Formatting, Charts etc. are absolutely helpful. When I present information to my managers or their managers, they're not so interested in the details of things.  Rather, they want reports that get straight to the point and I think Excel  2007 does things like that quite nicely.

Hi there,

I'm also new here and I'm thinking about taking MCAS in Excel.

During the exam, how do you know if you've given a correct answer or not? Is there any notification that says "you've completed the task successfully, go to the next question"?

Thank you,
Sylwia

Hi ,

I gave 2 Microsoft excel 2010 exams (77 882 )but failed. I was close to the passing score in the last exam I took. I feel I was able to solve all the questions and give the output as asked. But am not able to understand their method of evaluation. I felt I should have got a very high score.
Is it that you should get the output with minimum steps ? Or Have I missed out something. Do I need to save the answers by pressing ctrl +s.

Hello all,

I'm also new to this forum and am going to be taking the MOS Excel 2010 exam. I have a couple of quesitons. What is the format of the exam? Do you get to see an Excel window while you're taking the exam? ALso, what score do I have to have in order to pass the exam? Any other suggestions, tips, would be more than helpful!

Thanks!
