After running diagnostics I am recieving overlapping subnet mask errors. I am trying to work out if this can be the root cause for network dropouts.

The environment consists of the following:
SBS 2003 server as domain controller
10.x.x.x
255.255.255.0
Sunserver
10.x.x.x
255.0.0.0
2 HP Proliant switches
10.x.x.x
255.255.255.0
Kyocera Printer
10.x.x.x
255.255.0.0

Errors reported in the HP switch excessive broadcasts on about 5 ports, excessive crc alignment errors and loss of link.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I need just a little bit more info on your situation.

Can you provide the IP addresses for the HP switches?  I would like to see if you have unique host addresses on both.

Thanks!

HP switch IP's are: 10.0.0.250 & 10.0.0.251.

There is also POE device 10.0.0.252.

Seems problems only started after a phone tech setup IP phone system.

Ok i talked to a colleague of mine.  Networking is not a strong suite of mine so i asked for an opinion.

Before i rant and tell you what the issue is, i would like to have you try the solution so that i know its the right answer.

So, change the IP adresses from 10.0.0.x to 10.0.5.x

see if this helps and report back with the results.  if you can, upload an image with the error screen so that we can further diagnose your issue.

However, if this is a brand new scope, it is more likely that the scope is subnetted, and the Start Address and End Address overlap two or more subnets.

For example, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides a scope of addresses for a customer, from 205.241.139.160 to 205.241.139.223 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.160. Trying to create a single scope with this starting/ending range, and using the supplied subnet mask prompts the user with the error message shown above.
