Like AVG, also. Catches lots though not always an attempt to change default home page in some browsers. Others will do that though. Not familiar with the other, though I can also recommend Avast.
Keep a supply of Registry tools around as well, and make note of how the "invaders" identify themselves. I find the "junk" toolbars and screensavers to be the worst. Just try to clean off an "idiot's" machine with five toolbars cluttering the browser window and each wants to take on multiple Registry identities. Just be mindful of the tools you use, they will more than intended if not properly configured or used.

If they surf pr0n, download .exe's off Limewire, play stupid with torrents, and surf for cracks/keygens/serials

Sort of my job lol. Anyways none of those 2 are good at what they do.
If I had to choose from those 2 alone I would go for AVG.
Clamwin is a very weak scanner.
Was originally a mail scanner if I remember correctly.
I use Avast works much better then Avg at least.
Best Av's I've seen are NOD and Kaspersky.
