im looking into setting up a network at my house and i was wanting some suggestions on whether to use a wired router or go wireless.

Well, unless you need to, I would suggest sticking with wired.

Its faster, more reliable, cheaper, and more secure.  The only reason I think someone should ever run wireless, is if they can't run the cables, or if they like to roam around the house with a laptop.

I agree that wired is faster, more reliable, cheaper, and more secure.If u have a PC and a laptop/notebook i suggest that your PC u can use wired connection and your laptop /notebook u can use wireless connection

there isn't a "BEST" solution. Depends on your use.  I have pc wired and the laptop wireless.  I can take the laptop outside, hook the webcam into the eyepiece of my telescope and let the world see the stars.  You can't do that while wired.

Definately wired, it ensures better security. Unless of course you need to roam around the house.

I would suggest both. In my house we have 4 Laptops and 2 Desktops. We have the cables run through the wall so the exposed cables is at a minimum. But my wife and myself like to sit on the couch and watch tv and play on the laptops. the trick with wireless is making sure it is secure. Use the basic WEP keys and MAC Filters and you should be alright. And be sure to change the User Name and Password to your router.

In my view, both wired and wire free are good.However, it all depends on the situation you are in .When comparing,wired network is simple,low cost and more reliable,esp for home users.

Wired has less latency in the sense of peer-to-peer connections (esp. LAN gaming)...for normal internet activities..wireless will suffice but for anything network-intensive...you'll want to stick with wired

ziggis right, but go for WPA rather than WEP just to be on the safe side and MAC filtering doesn't actually do much to increase security as the MAC address is transmitted unencrypted across the network and can be easily spoofed.

it would all depend, i like wired for the speed and no interuption but depending on how far your computer or device will be from the router,moden,etc. and how many could make things a little clutered. and wireless simply clean organized but you loose speed on distance and interference to the connection. i personly go wired.

Wired will give you better speeds and dependablitly (No possible way of wireless interference) However I would buy a wireless access point and add it to the router as sometimes its nice to sit on the couch and browse the web.

PROS : Cheap, easy setup/take down, scalable,
ConS : security, lack of speed, hardware tends to be flakey, interuption from telephone/microwave (unless 5ghz),


Wired

PRos :  Faster than wireless, more secure, hardware is more substantial, less interferance

cons :  expensive, involves routing cable through walls,  as you add computers/ locations to jack in price goes up.

With the increase in the technology the equipment and their use is also changing. Wireless and wire technology now are used in every thing. Wireless is more effective and beneficial as there is no need of wire and earthing on the other hand  the wire technology required a connection with wire.
