Once you have your A+, you are good to go. CompTIA will offer you to freshen your knowledge every year. They charge you for it, though. Nonetheless this is not a must-do. Employers still consider my A+ (passed in 2006) as valid.
Good luck in the IT world!

Here is a synopsis from the book, it is very comprehensive:
This book is your one-stop answer for the A+ exams. Everything you need to know to pass the exams is in here. You do not have to take a class in addition to buying this book to pass the exam. Depending on your personal study habits or learning style, however, you might benefit from buying this book and taking a class. Hope that helps...

I've recently done the exam and what i can say is that it's not as difficult as the Trancender practice exams but very similar questions to those in the Sybex test engine. So no one stress and one tip...don't change your answers..stick to your instinct.
Good luck to all.

I think the difficulty lies in having to memorize every little thing. I'm glad it's difficult, yet accessible. The more barriers to entry into your career, the better off you'll be. I work 40 hours a week at Trader Joe's for Pete's sake. No barriers to entry there.
