I'm getting ready to purchase Mike Myers A+ Certification. From what I can tell, the 6th edition is the latest one. does any one know if that is in fact the case?
Thank you

Thank you for the fast reply, I've been looking around the CompTIA web site, I can not find any mention on when they are going to update the A+ Essintials certification. do you have any information on the date?

Hi. I just got Mike Meyers A+ Certification 6th edition but there are quite a number of mistakes in book and CD enclosed. I think the CD may be made about 2006 although has 2007 on it. There is a errata sheet available but you have to be careful and make sure you have corrections done as I recall the MCC is listed as MMC on the CD and another blooper in book page 315 in Fig 9- 25 has Power Cable and Data cable listed incorrectly. Names should be swapped around.
Also I think page 272 is also wrong in bottom paragraph it states "many 20 pin connectors have capacitors that prevent plugging in a 24 pin connector.
I dont recall seeing a 20 pin connector having a capacitor fastened or glued to it. May be should be worded Many 20 pin connectors have Capacitors on motherboard that prevents plugging in. But I don't get it after all how could you plug a 24 pin connector in a 20 pin socket.?
Im only part of the way through the book and I did a quick look on page 781 regarding CRT monitor faults. Just above External adjustments it says A single white dot means the flyback transformer is faulty. Its more that likely lost Hoz. and Vert. deflection as a bright white dot indicates the EHT is still working. Also best to discharge monitor direct to monitor earth directly on back of tube and not to any chassis part as this can damage electronic components due to high current involved
Also further quick look over at P 783 about discharging monitors I wouldn't go on his recommendations as serviced many TVSets and Monitors over the years and tube charge can rebuild after a short time and you can get zapped very easy. Best way is to make sure you short it again immediately before removing ultor connection and short out ultor connection to ground before reattaching lead.
I wonder how many more mistakes I will find in this book.? as only got part of the way through at this stage.
I think a booklet on all the mistakes in the book and the PDF would be a great idea.
But otherwise I guess it has some good data but unsure how it compares against similar books avaliable.

Hello,
I do believe that the mike meyers all in one 6th edition is as of right now the most current version he has released. The exam objectives for Comptia will be changing so you can bet that he will more than likely be releasing a new study guide version when that change occurs, but do not worry you still have some time before that happens. For more information check the official Comptia website at http://www.comptia.org

Hey bobby 1234,
I see on the comptia site test objectives for 701 and 702, are they in play already. It looks like they deleted the 4 part test in exchange for a 2 part?
Do you know anything about this, and when the new objectives will start?
thanks,

I hope to get this done as well before they add the Vista component! I have had very little contact with Vista because the exposure I have had have been horrible. Windows 7 on the other hand is great seems to have the best of Vista without all the crap.

It may be good to have a grasp on Vista to be able to support users of it for exactly the reason that it does have so many issues.
