Hiya,
I'm currently a Desktop Support Analyst and support 230 users, so it's my job to make sure that their printers, and PCs stay up and running, and sort them if they're not, only been doing this job for a year, and only got it because I had my foot in the door by working in another department, hence I could do with the qualification! So I am experienced (to a degree! lol), but it's the OS side of things that I'm not so hot on to be honest!

How many of you are currently in computer related jobs?

I work on a helpdesk with about 200 users. I do repair work on computers/printers, but alot of the equipment is under warranty and we can call the manufacturer for replacement parts.

If only! Sounds like the ideal job!! lol We're probably running around 60% XP Pro machines (less than 20% still under warranty), which is great, but the other 40% is a mixture of really old 98se & nt4 machines, which I suppose is good in a way, because at least I'll have some hands on experience with other OSs for the exams!   smile.gif

I am, but up to this point I have done primarily applications support, practice management systems, HIPAA etc... Now, I am looking to get more experience across the board. I have been with the practice 15 years, but in IT only about 5. We have a big enough department that everyone has their specialty... I need something else to get my brain charged up!

I have a computer business that I own for the last two years and worked for my father's company for 7yrs. prior to that. I have a partner who is an MCSE, he does all the service calls and network related services. I do all the building/repair work in our store, which works out great as my partner's and my skill sets complement each other. He (my partner) was also one of my customers at my fathers business so we knew each others skill sets. Since I taught myself everything I know, I thought it would be a challenge to take the A+ cert. I'm fairly confident that I will do well but the real challenge has been opening and managing a computer business.

I have some experience but am not currently working with computers.  Hoping to rectify this soon but vacancies in my part of UK are few and far between.

I worked in a helpdesk environment for 5 years supporting almost 20,000 users in total across the country.  I now work as a Level 3 Field Engineer supporting over 20,000 users.

I am only working on certifications only to advance my career, because I can do the job of a field engineer, network admin or LAN/WAN admin.

I haven't held any paying I.T. jobs, but really enjoy hardware Techie stuff, troubleshooting other people's computers and using them as tools for communication.

Looking forward to what the morrow will bring, I am going to get A+, Network+, Linux+, look at MCSE and just have fun with it.  Oh, and get paid as well.

I currently work in Law Enforcement full time, however part time I operate a Computer Forensic Investigation company, specializing in hard disk analysis for attorneys and Law Enforcement for use in legal cases.

I'd like the A+ so that I can offer a few more services during lean times of the year.  In forensics, it's feast or famine!

I am not currently employed in the IT arena due to recent health problems, but I have worked in IT in many departments from mainframe operations to notebook sales, I have allways been called upon for support, but not actually had it in my job descriptions.

I am also a desktop support analyst and support 100 users. Our department is fairly new. My job description is very similar to yours and I am also responsible for all the Nextel's and Blackberry's. I am trying to get the nerve to schedule my A+ harware for next Friday. Sometimes I feel fairly confident and other times I feel completely panicked.

My background is in GIS (Geography Information Systems), Remote sensing and Graphic Design. I am much more confident on the OS side of things although I here that is the harder of the two tests. Bus speeds and Scsi is driving me crazy!
