Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has issued a stern warning to parents, teachers and students to check the authentication of training providers and institutions. Sources indicate more instances of this in South Africa.
Many training institutes are misleading students to believe that their "certification" is authentic and recognised by big information communication technology (ICT) companies. These training providers often have no formal recognition and are awarding bogus qualifications that are worthless in the eyes of industry and employers.
"We have launched an online database that verifies certification and checks where potential employees completed their training. The site will verify CompTIA, Novell and other international certificates." says Loraine Vorster, regional director of CompTIA South Africa
If you attended training towards international certifications such as the A+, ensure you take the official exams at an authorised prometric or VUE test centre. The practice of offering "local" or "South-African" A+ exams compiled by the training centre is illegal and the certificates are not worth the paper they are written on.
