The following is a quick overview of what to study to get you a better grasp of hardware exam. It does not cover all topics and is just meant to serve as a pointer. If you are 100% committed to APlus, we highly suggest you visit CompTIA.org A+ section and review the full overview. Also read through the exam overview and syllabus in detail.
* There are several tools available for hardware troubleshooting. Learn what they are and how to use them ( Multimeter Thread On Forum)
* Learn what the hardware looks like. (motherboard, daughterboard, video card, sound card, modem, network card). "Hands on" is very helpful for this. Below is a sample image from Motherboard/Processor/Memory tutorial:

* Cable types
* Terminology: Computer Dictionary can help. There is also a helpful document by Hemp (our forum moderator ) at the forum.
* ATA, USB and FireWire
* Memorize the common IRQ's. A Common IRQ list has been compiled by Hemp and made available through the forum.
* CPU Specifications
* Memory types
* Data Storage types
* Static Electricity (what causes it, what are the short term/long term effects)
* Study some basic electricity concepts (AC/DC)
* Printers and how they work, especially laser printers (Click for Tip)
* How does the hardware interact with the software (device driver tutorial)
