This period spanned from the early 1600’s to the early 1700’s and spread through most of Europe. The baroque period was characterized by stylized and exaggerated features which were used to create the feeling of drama and tension in a particular work. Baroque architecture focused on the grand, with massive parallel staircases and domes which accentuated the void space in structure.

Similarly, master baroque artisans such as Bernini captured dramatic motion and energy in his sculptures and fountains. The baroque period represented all things grand and highly charged.
