Communication
A general term for the exchange of information, feelings, thoughts, and acts between two or more people, including both verbal and non-verbal aspects of this interchange-it is one exchange of messages-the process of human beings responding to verbal/non-verbal behavior-the process of creating a meaning between 2 or more people
The communication process is dynamic, ongoing and transactional
It is dynamic in that it is constantly in motion it is ongoing because there is no fixed beginning or end to the process
it is transactional because ail elements of the personality, body, mind, reasoning power and emotions occur simultaneously and the people communicating are interdependent

Components of the Communication process

The encoding and decoding of messages can be influenced by all of the following:
1. personal experience 2. feelings3. ideas4. moods5. gender6. occupation7. religion8. political views

Meanings of messages
-ideas and feelings you have about different things-would include the connotation:the emotional associations of a term-would also include the denotation: the objective emotion-free meaning of a term
Symbols of a message
-words or actions that represent meaning -our mind chooses words to convey messages -facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice often all affect the meaning of the words-used to encode and decode messages
Form of organization of a message
- a message should be organized so that the receiver does not become confused -make sure the message can be decoded-be careful of message overload-excessive verbal or written info
Sender of communication process
- one who encodes & delivers the message -encoding- converting an idea into words or gestures that will convey meaning
Receiver of communication process
one who receives & decodes a message -decoding- the process of transforming the symbols we receive into ideas & feelings -processes the message and reacts verbally & non-verbally
Message of communication process
-a senders words or action -the content of any communication
Environment/context
-the physical location & personal history surrounding the communication -context-the whole situation , background, or environment relevant to a particular event, personality, etc.. -this component might include some basic rules of communication
Environment/context- guidelines that tell you what kinds of messages and behavior are proper in a given context and with a particular person or group of people
- these rules are learned through experience -formal rules-parliamentary procedure social rules-knowing the group & what is acceptable
