What does the word "pioneer" mean?
A pioneer is a person who led the way west.
Why did the pioneers lead the way west in the 1700s and early 1800s?
Pioneers led the way west to find new land because farm land in the US was scarce and expensive.
What were some of the difficulties new travelers faced as they traveled west?
One difficulty during the travel to the new land was the Indians attacking the travelers. Also it was difficult to travel across mountains and forests.
What effect did Daniel Boone have on the expansion of the U.S. borders?
Daniel Boone was a famous trailblazer, hunter, and trapper. Boone settled in Kentucky and helped convince the Cherokee Indians to sell much of their land. He established the Wilderness Road and Boonesborugh. Kentucky became the 15th state.
Compare the veiw point of pioneers about he Wilderness Road with the veiwpoint of Native Americans in Kentucky.
For the pioneers the Wilderness Road was the way to new farmland that they wanted badly. For the Native Americans it meant more settlers on their important hunting and farming grounds.

When we won the War for Independence from Britain and got land. So, in 1800, what were our borders before the Lousiana Purchase?
In 1800, the borders stretched from the Atlantic Coast to the Mississippi River. British Canada was to the north, and in the south was Spanish Louisiana and Florida. On the west side of the Mississippi was French Louisiana.
Why did people start moving west?
Land prices were rising in the east, so people moved west to find cheaper lands to settle.
