Front Back
Acid Rain
Precipitation, as rain, snow, or sleet, containing relatively highconcentrations of acid-forming chemicals, as the pollutants from coal smoke, chemical manufacturing, and smelting, that have beenreleased into the atmosphere and combined with water vapor:harmful to the environment.
Acid
A compound usually having a sour taste andcapable of neutralizing alkalis and reddening blue litmuspaper, Acids are 1- 6 ont eh pH scale
Alkalis
An Alkalis is a solution with a pH value of more than seven. An alkali is where a base is dissolved in water. Often it is the salt of an Alkali metal
An alkali is the opposite to an acid and can be neutralised (brought down to pH 7) by adding acid.
Anticline
When the rock is folded the fold has anticlines these are the fold that bent up
Base
A Base or Alkali (in chemistry ) means having a pH (on the pH scale) of more than 7. . A base that is dissolved in water is called an alkali.
  • Bitter taste (opposed to sour taste of acids)
  • Slimy, or soapy feel on fingers
Continental Drift
Continental drift is the theory that the world is moving there are many theories to this idea but the most common is plate tectonics
Core
The earth is made up of 3 layers one of which is the core, the core is in the middle of the earth and is molten, it contains mostly nickel and cobalt
Crust
The earth is made up of 3 layers one of which is the crust the crust is the outer part of the earth and contains all of the minerals. the crust is 30-50 km thick
Electrons
Electrons are the negatively charged particles of atom. Together, all of the electrons of an atom create a negative charge that balances the positive charge of the protons in the atomic nucleus.
Endothermic reaction
Other chemical reactions that must absorb energy in order to proceed. These are endothermic reactions. Endothermic reactions cannot occur spontaneously. Work must be done in order to get these reactions to occur. When endothermic reactions absorb energy, a temperature drop is measured during the reaction.
Epicentre
The epicenter is the point on the earth's surface vertically above the hypocenter (or focus), point in the crust where a seismic rupture begins
Exothermic reaction
Many chemical reactions release energy in the form of heat, light, or sound. These are exothermic reactions. They are denoted by a negative heat flow (heat is lost to the surroundings)
Faults
A fault is when two tectonic plates are pushing up against each other and the finally give way and make a crack in the earth's crust.
Folds
The term fold is used in geology when one or a stack of originally flat and planar surfaces, such as sedimentary strata, are bent or curved as a result of permanent deformation. Synsedimentary folds are those due to slumping of sedimentary material before it is lithified.
Indicator
An indicator is a liquid used to measure the acidity or how base something is, there are two kinds basic indicators and universal indicator universal indicators give us a specific pH whereas basic indicators only tell us if it's Akalai, Neutral, or Acidic
