Blue Nail
Nail plate has bluish appearance. Caused by poor circulation, aneamia or a heart problem.
Black Nail
Nail has black or brown appearance. Caused by result of heavy bruising.
Excema and Dermatisis
Skin around nail appears very dry and red, may crack and flake and is usually itchy. Caused by hereditary factors and allergic reactions.Clients can be allergic to lanolin, resins, nail hardeners and polishes.
Lamella Dystrophy
Can affect one or more nails and is characterised by flaky, peeling and breaking of nail plate.Caused by harsh chemicals, illness, neglect, overuse.
Onycholysis
Gradual separation of nail plate from nail bed whereby nail loosens without coming away completely.Lifting of nail plate.Caused by internal disorders, psoriasis, eczema, rough treatment.
Onychotillomania/Onychotillia
Compulsive nervous disorder in which person picks constantly an nails or tries to tear them off.
Koilonychia
Spoon shape nails. Abnormal growth causes nail to splay at sides with a depression in middle.Caused by inherited abnormality, anaemia, over active thyroid
Micronychia
Presence of one or more abnormally small fingernails or toenails.
Warts
Usually occur on hands and fingers - raised patches can be discoloured and rough.Caused by VIRUS
Varuccas
Compressed warts on feet.Caused by VIRUS.
Chillblains
Painful, itchy areas o feet, Common in elderly people and those who are often in hot, cold or damp conditions.Caused by inadequate blood supply and aggravated by cold and damp
Corns
Thickened, dense areas of skin found on pressure areas of foot. Look white, have a core and can be painful.Caused by ill fitting shoes.
Calluses
Yellow, have no core so generally painless. Caused by friction. There for protection.
