Action: Abducts arm; flexes, extends

Origin: Clavice, sternum, cartilages of ribs 1-7
Insertion: Crest of greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Flexes, adducts, and medially rotates arm

Origin: Ribs 3-5
Insertion: Coracoid process of scapula
Action: Depress glenoid cavity, raises ribs 3-5

Origin: T7-12, L1-5, S1-5, crest of illium, ribs 10-12
Insertion: Intertubercular groove of humerus
Action: Extends, adducts, and medially rotates arm; draws shoulder inferiorally

Origin: Supraspinous fossa
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Abducts arm, helps stabilize shoulder joint

Origin: Infraspinous fossa
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Laterally rotates and adducts arm, stabilizes shoulder joint
