)Why do we sometimes have faulty idea of the nature of crime in the United States?
All we see usually about Crime is through the Media. Be it Television, Magazines or news papers. Obviously we are not getting the entire story or completely accurate facts. Media sensitized most of it and distorts what they want so viewer ratings will go up. They will do this any way they can. They can remove certain facts and give you the truth but not the whole truth. This can paint a very different picture then just some of the truth.
In addition to the CJ system, which institutions exert social control?
Family, Religion, Media, and schools
Can the CJ system be more efficent? What would the implications be?
I believe the CJ system can be more efficent if perhaps it focused more on rehabiliation instead of retribution. When people are sent to prison for their crimes it does not teach them how to be a better citizen. All it does is ban them from society where they do not get to see how normal society works. It pends them up like animals and in my opinion makes them an angrier person. Although I believe some cases do require retribution and need to be away from society as a whole because of the damage they could do, I do not believe that this is for most. Perhaps if we worked more with adressing the persons psychological issues that we would be getting more “change”.
In what way is the CJ process like a funnel?
Cases move downward towads their final disposition. The problem with the funnel is that it is too small to hold all the cases, and so a considerable amount of leakage occurs.
What are the goals of the CJ system? Which of these goals are most important? What should be done when these goals conflict?
There are five basic goals. Different aspects of the system have different goals, and depending on one's relationship with the system, different converns and values are emphasized. Police officers are more concerned with capturing suspects, wheras correctional officers and administratiors are concerned with changing offender's behavior through punishmen or treatment.
The five goals are Deterrence, Incapacition, Retribution, Rehabilition and Restoration,
Why is the CJ system considered the system of last resort?
It is because before the CJ system they go through 'The family', Religion, Schools and The media...if those don't stop a person from commiting a crime then the CJ system has to. However it is the last resort because of Structure, Resources, and the Offender.
What is the difference between white-collar crime and corporate crime? Should the penalties for both types of crime be more harsh?
Corporate crime is a crime committed by a corporation or indiduals working there. They commit the crime to make a larger profit for the business. For them it is all about making the company profit more. However White-Collar crimes are not about making the company profitable, in fact, usually the opposite. It usually harms the company.
Why is sensationalized crime not representative of most crime?
Because most of what people know about crime comes from television which does not show the truth about everything. It mainly focuses on audience and giving them what they want..which doesnot mean being completely accurate about that. Not only that they show things so often about things that they think people will be interested of and sometimes leave out important facts!
What general Type of crime does the public fear most?
Street crimes.
Discuss the effect of socialization on Scoial control.
Socialization is important because it makes us understand simple principles and traditions on what our society is based on. We learn to live with those principles and be successful members of scoiety.

Clearance rate is calculated by dividing the number of crimes that are "cleared" (e.g. due to a charge being laid) by the total number of crimes recorded. These are used by various criminal justice groups as a measure of crimes solved by the police.
