In the plant kingdon what are the two major groups?
Non Vascular
Vascular
What is the difference between vascular and non vascular?
Vascular = not able to transport water and food
Non - Vascular = able to transport water and food
What are the 2 transport systems and what does each do?
Xylem = Involved in transporting water
Phloem = Involved in transporting food

What characteristics do ALL plants have?
* Multicellular
* Photosynthetic
* Waxy Cuticle
* Surface tissue opening (stomata) for gas exchange (CO2)
Describe the difference between angiosperms and Gymnosperms?
Angiosperms = seed or flowering plants
Gymnosperms = seed or non flowering plant
Root and shoot system:
What does the root system and shoot system rely on?
Roots = Rely on sugar produced by photosynthesis in the shoot system
Shoots = Rely on water and minerals absorbed by the root system
A Stem is an organ consisting of....? And what do they do?
* Nodes = An alternating system of nodes, the points at which the leaves are attached.
* Internodes = Stem segments between nodes.
What is an axillary bud and an apical bud?
Axillary bud = a structure that has the potential to form a lateral shoot or branch.
Apical Bud/terminal bud = located near the shoot tip and causes elongation of a young shoot.
What does a leaf consist of?
Flattened Blade and a stalk called the petiole
What are the 2 types of flowering plants?
Monocots and Dicots
How are the leaves different on monocots and dicots?
* Monocots =Have parallel veins
* Dicots = Have branching veins
Describe the differences between Monocots and Dicots
* Monocots = 1 cotyledon (embryonic leaf),thin leaves, x3 flowers, scattered vascular bundle,fibrous roots
* Dicots = 2 cotyledon, broad leaves, x5 flowers, ring vascular bundle, tap roots

Each plant organ has what 3 tissues?
1.) Dermal tissue
2.) Vascular tissue
3.) Ground tissue
In non woody plants what does the dermal tisses system consist of?
Epidermis
What is the waxy coating called and what is its function?
Cuticle. Helps prevent water loss from the epidermis.
