Acute
Sudden, sharp.
Alzheimer's Disease
Dementia due to changes in the brain.
Ambulatory
Able to walk around.
Aphasia
Inability to express oneself properly through speech and/or loss of verbal comprehension. 1) Expressive-can't. 2) Receptive-can't understand what is being said.
Artery
Large blood vessel carrying blood away from the heart to the tissues.
Arthritis
Inflammation of the joints and tissues.
Attitudes
Feelings and opinions one has or shows toward situations, or other people.
Coma
An abnormal deep stupor--sleep like--cannot be awakened.
Comatose
Used to describe the condition of patient in coma. Sometimes the word unconscious is used.
Constipation
Infrequent and difficult bowel evacuation.
Sonvulsion
Violent, strong involuntary muscular contractions and relaxation.
C.V.A./Stroke
Stands for cerebral vascular accident.
Cyanosis
Slightly bluish grayish discoloration of the skin due to lack of oxygen.
Decubitus ulcer
Ulcerated, worn away area on the skin. Also called Pressure sore.
Deformity
Distortion/disfiguration in a certain area.
