Where is the brainstem?

It is the part of the brain that connects the brain to the spinal cord.
What is the function of the brainstem?
The brainstem is involved in coordinating many basic functions such as heart rate, breathing, eating and sleeping.

It consists of the midbrain, pons and medulla oblongata.
What is the midbrain?
The midbrain controls vision, hearing, eye movement and body movement.
What do the pons do?
They are involved in regulating body movement, attention, sleep and alertness.
What does the medulla oblongata do?
The medulla oblongata controls vital body functions. e.g. breathing and heart rate. It also regulates autonomic systems.
Where is the limbic system?
It is located on top of the brain stem.
What is the function of the limbic system?
In general, the limbic system is in charge of basic drives, emotions and memory.
What is the limbic system made up of?

Hippocampus, Amygdala, Pituitary gland, Hypothalamus and Thalamus.
What does the Hippocampus do?
The hippocampus is in charge of memory processing.
What does the Amyglada do?
It is in charge of fight (aggression) or flight (fear).
What does the pituitary gland do?
It secretes hormones that help with growth and reproduction.
What does the hypothalamus do?
It maintains homeostatis, involved in movement, thirst, hunger and the autonomic nervous system.
What does the thalamus do?
All sensory input goes into the thalamus. Motor output goes through the thalamus and out to the body
Where is the cerebellum?
The cerebellum, Latin for "little brain", is located behind the brainstem.
