Must be more than 1 condition, only difference between conditions should be independent variable, subjects must be randomly sampled & assigned, statistical analysis of results must be done & can not selectively omit data from analysis

COnfounding - Variables that vary along with independent that may impact dependent
Random - Variables that will differ across conditions but are difficult to control for
