Do You Know the Basic of Anatomy and Physiology of Animals Flashcards

Do you know the basics of the anatomy and physiology of animals on a cellular level? Many people do not understand how the cells work, which is important in that all living things are of cells. Do take a look at the flashcards below and get to have a much-desired understanding of the cells, their parts, and how they can perform specific functions.

Cards In This Set

Front Back
Cytoplasm
Contains all the cells contents.
Nucleus
Large organelle that contains DNA in chromosomes and is associated packaging proteins
Plasma membrane
Flexible yet sturdy.have intelligence(semipermeable)covers and protects that cellcontrols what comes in/outlinks to other cellsflies certain "flags" to tell other cells who it is
Fluid Mosaic Model
Describes the arrangement of molecules within the membrane.lipids act as a barrier to certain polar substancesproteins act as a gatekeeper, allowing passage for certain molecules and ions
Integral proteins
Extend into or through the bilayer.
Transmembrane
Span the entire bilayer
Peripheral proteins
Only on top and bottom, does not go through.
Glycoproteins
Membrane proteins with carbohydrate group attached that protrude into the extracellular fluid.
Transporters
Selectively move substances through the membrane
Receptors
For cellular recognition; a ligand is a molecule that binds with the receptor
Enzymes
Catalyze chemical reactions. but others act as a cell identity maker.
Impermeable
Needed by the cell but cannot pass through the membrane. transmembrane proteins act as channels.
Passive processes
Involve substances that move across the membrane without energy.ex. boulder down a hill, gravity pulls it down, no extra energy needed.
Active processes
Involve the use of energy primarily from the breakdown of ATP, to move substances against its gradient.ex. moving the boulder UP the hill
Osmosis
Net movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane- through lipid bilayer
