What is the definition of Respiration ?
Respiration is a series of chemical reactions that release energy by breaking down large food molecules (glucose). It happens in every living cell.
What does energy released supply ?
It powers chemical reaction in cells.
After the energy is released what chemical reactions does it power ?
Movement : energy is needed to make muscles contract. Active transport : this process uses energy to move substances in and out of cells. Synthesis of larger molecules : large molecules are made by joining smaller molecules this requires energy e.g glucose joins together to make cellulose and starch for photosynthesis, glucose and nitrogen join together to make amino acids.
What does aerobic respiration require ?
Oxygen.
Why is aerobic respiration more useful then anaerobic respiration ?
It realeases more energy per glucose molecule.
Which respiration do you use more ?
Aerobic. Animal , plant and micoorganisms cells all respire aerobically.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration ?
Glucose + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ energy realeased)
What is the symbol equation for aerobic respiration ?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O (+ energy)
