True or False? Calcium ions are a part of bone development, synaptic transfer, and blood coagulation.
True
True or False? The digestive system is the main excretion system of the body.
False! The urinary system is the main excretion system of the body.
What are the five main functions of the urinary system?
It is the primary means by which: 1. the body gets rid of toxins, 2. controls the levels of ions in the body, 3. controls the amount of water in the body, 4. controls the pH of the blood, 5. and controls red blood cell production.
The main organs of the urinary system are:
The kidneys
True or False? There are two kidneys in your body, in the exact same position.... just located oposite one another on each side of the body.
False! There ARE two of them, but they are not exactly at the same position on the right and left sides of the body. The right kidney is slightly lower than the left, because the liver takes up so much room on the right side of the body.
ureter
Takes fluid out of the kidney and to the urinary bladder
urinary bladder
The bladder holds urine. As urine collects, the urinary bladder can stretch because its mucosa is made of stratified transitional epithelium.
urethra
The urinary bladder empties through the urethra, which leads outside the body.
peritoneal cavity
The large organ-filled cavity anterior to the kidneys. Most of the abdominal organs (liver, spleen, pancreas, and stomach, for example) are housed in the peritoneal cavity
parietal peritoneum
Outer membranous boundary of the peritonaeal cavity and lies over the kidneys. It is composed of a serous membrane which secretes a small amount of fluid into the cavity
True or False? The kidneys are located in the peritoneal cavity along with the liver, spleen, pancreas, and stomach?
False! The kidneys are NOT located in the Peritoneal cavity..... . As a result, they are called retroperitoneal organs.
Retroperitoneal
Retroperitoneal – Behind the parietal peritoneum
visceral peritoneum
The organs that are housed within the peritoneal cavity are each encased in another serous membrane, called the.......... visceral peritoneum! These serous membranes (the parietal and visceral peritoneum), together with the serous fluid lubricate the organs so that they experience very little friction as they move against the body wall and each other.

True or False? Kidneys do not move when the body moves.
True! They remain in one place....
perirenal fat.
Kidneys are not allowed to move when the body moves. Instead, they are held firmly in place by a layer of adipose tissue called perirenal fat.
