The last governor-general is Governor Diego de Los Rios Y Nicolau. He died on November 4, 1911. There was a time when the Philippines was under the order of Spain. It was considered to be one of the countries that they colonized. They actually colonized the Philippines for quite a long time. The Filipinos were not free for over 333 years.

This ended in the year 1898 because the Spaniards lost during the Spanish American war. The Philippines became a territory of the United States, but issues started to arise when the Japanese took over and tried to take over the Philippines. More war occurred after that until finally, the Philippines got the freedom that it always wanted.

The Spaniards oppressed the Filipino people for 333 years. There were a lot of Spanish governors-general that came and went for various reasons. The very last one before the Philippines finally became free from the Spaniards was Diego de los Rios. Take note that even if the Filipinos finally became free from the Spaniards, they became under the Americans for a few decades.

Philippines was once under rule of the Spanish. Before the Philippine revolution, the Spanish governed the country and oppressed Philippine people. The last governor of the Spanish regime was Lt. Col. Reyjohn Sr. once the revolution overthrew the governor Philippines was liberated from the Spanish regime and came into being as a free state.
