The motherboard in a computer gives signals to other parts and tells it what to do. Sometimes, a mother board is also known as a system board, a mainboard, a logic board, or a planar board. It is considered to be the major printed circuit board that is found in a variety of different computers.

A motherboard is a pathway for communication between various electrical components that together make up a computer. The term mainboard which is often used interchangeably, refers to a single mother board. There are many components such as sound cards, video cards, and hard drive attached to the motherboard.
