The correct answer to this question is Guiding the patterns of consumptions and goods are not a function of the economy as a social institution. In a social institution, the economy organizes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services in a country. All societies need products and services.

The economy helps fulfill that need. Capitalism is an economic system. Under this system, resources and the way the products made are privately. Socialism is also an economic system. The system has what to, how much, and for whom to product. The what, how, and whom are the fundamental questions of an economy.
