Alcoholic Cirrhosis is a condition of the liver that is caused by chronic alcoholism. This is the most common type of cirrhosis of the liver. This type of disease is characterized by scar tissue surrounding the portal areas. This disease is the most advanced part of a progression of liver problems related to alcohol.

Before ending up with alcoholic cirrhosis the disease progression may start with fatty liver disease, progress to alcoholic hepatitis and then finally progress to alcoholic cirrhosis as the final stage. When the disease progresses the liver will be covered more so with scar tissue than healthy tissue and will eventually stop functioning entirely.
