Motherboard, Processor and Memory form the main components of a computer system.

Motherboard is the main circuit board of a computer. It contains connectors and ports for attaching additional boards and peripheral devices. It has multiple controller chips on the motherboard to control standard devices such as keyboard, disk drive, etc. All the controller chips together are called as chipset.

Processor, sometimes referred as CPU (central processing unit), performs the actual processing of data. The data is obtained, via the system bus, from the main memory and the results are then sent back to main memory via the system bus. Apart from computation, the processor controls and co-ordinates the operations of major components.

The CPU has two main components, the Control Unit & Arithmetic Logical Unit (ALU).

Memory, sometimes referred as Main Memory, is an electronic component that stores programs and data either permanently or temporarily before transmitting between CPU and I/O devices.
