Before opening the computer system case, check for simple user problems:
Is there a CD or DVD in the drive?
Is the label side of the disk facing upward?
Is the disk a CD-ROM or some other type of CD?
In cases where the drive is not working or responding and a CD is stuck inside, you can insert a straightened paper clip into the tray-release access hole that's located beside the eject button. This helps in releasing the spring-loaded tray and the disc pops out.
Even after following the above, if the problem persists then you may have to replace the drive.
