A floppy drive may not work because of any of the reasons listed below:

  • Bad floppy diskette.

  • Incorrect settings in CMOS.

  • Conflict with other hardware.

  • Connection incorrect.

  • Bad drivers.

  • Bad floppy drive.

  • Drive failure

  1. Bad floppy diskette.

    Verify the floppy diskette that you are trying to read from is not write-protected or bad.

    The floppy disks are very fragile and hence they easily become bad. Check with a known good floppy disk to see if it works in your drive.
