A+ Certification Study Guide: Diagnosing & Troubleshooting

Motherboard

All the devices are directly or indirectly connected to the motherboard. If the connected device does not work then there is a strong possibility of the motherboard not working properly or is dead. The motherboard needs to be checked thoroughly to make sure it is working properly.

The chances for a new computer to have a bad motherboard are very less. The most possible cause could be a faulty device connected to the motherboard or there is a loose contact somewhere.

How to Diagnose the Motherboard problem:

  • If the computer is not powering up then do the basic troubleshooting like checking the power outlet and check for loose connectivity. Check all the devices are connected firmly to the motherboard.

  • Make sure the power supply fan is rotating and working properly.
