In order to remove potentially conflicting USB drivers, follow the below mentioned steps:
Disconnect any USB devices connected to the system and start up the system in safe mode.
A menu will prompt you to choose the operating system .. Select Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 2000 Server using up and down arrow keys, and then press Enter.
If alert messages appear, read each alert carefully and then click the OK button to close it.
Open the Device Manager utility >> Select the desired USB device >> Right-click on the device to select Uninstall from the popup menu.
Your particular USB device might be listed under either of these: Universal Serial Bus Controller, Other Devices, Unknown Devices, or a particular device category like the Modem entry if the device is a USB modem.
