If the test result fails then run the local digital loop-back test. If the results are positive then the problem is on the local computer.

Incase the local digital test fails, you should run the local analog loopback test.

If the result is negative then run the local loop-back test.

If the local analog test fails, the problem is located in the local modem.

If the local analog test is successful and the problem still exists then run the local analog test on the remote computer, the outcome of the test will pinpoint the source of the problem.

If the modem is an internal unit, you can test its hardware by connecting a known good working modem.

With an external modem, you can use the front panel lights as diagnostic tools to monitor its operation. You can monitor the progress and handling of a call, along with any errors that might occur.
