Modems are capable to perform three different kinds of self-diagnostic tests:

The local digital loopback test
The local analog loopback test
The remote digital loopback test
Incase there are frequent transmission errors you should use the various loop back tests to locate the source of the problem.
User can use these tests to source the problems.
First start by running remote digital loop-back test. If the result is successful then the problem is with the remote computer.
