Most sound cards perform two basic functions. The first is to play sound files and the second is to record them. You might need to troubleshoot problems for either of these two functions.
Sound Card Configuration Checks
Check the computer for resource conflicts in Windows. Access Control Panel and double-click the System icon. Click Device Manager and select the Sound, Video, and Game Controller option. If the computer detects any conflicts, an exclamation mark will appear against the audio controller.
From the Device Manager, select the proper sound card driver from the list and move into its Resource window. The page's main window displays all the resources the driver is using for the card. The Conflicting Device List window provides information about any conflicting resource the computer might have detected related to the sound card.
