  • Chipset  The chipset is the heart of a computer and contains all of the circuitry for the motherboard to function. The chipset makes the data transfer possible. It determines how fast components like the processor, memory, keyboard and various plug-ins can function in relation to each other.
  • DDR SDRAM  Double-Data-Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (DDR SDRAM) is a type of memory used in computers. It is also called SDRAM II and DDRAM.
  • DIMM  Dual In-line Memory Module is an assembly of several RAM chips on a single board used in computers. It has 64-bit path.
  • ESDI  ESDI (Enhanced Small Device Interface) is an interface standard developed by a consortium of the leading PC manufacturers for connecting disk drives to computers.
  • Front Side Bus (FSB)  Front Side Bus (FSB) also known as Processor Bus, Memory Bus, or System Bus. It is the speed that the CPU communicates with RAM (memory). The FSB can range from speeds of 66 MHz, 133 MHz, 100 MHz, 266 MHz, 400 MHz, and with the latest processors it's 1600MHz.
  • IDE  IDE also known as Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA), ATAPI, and UDMA is a standard interface for connecting storage devices such as hard disks and CD-ROM drives inside computers.
  • Megabytes  Equals one million bytes or 1,000 kilobytes. 1 Byte = 8 bits 1 kilobyte = about 1,000 bytes 1 Megabyte = about 1,000,000 bytes 1 Gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1 Terabyte = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.
  • MFM  MFM (Modified Frequency Modulation) is a magnetic data recording scheme used by most floppy disk formats.
  • PDA  Personal digital assistants (PDAs or palmtops) are handheld devices that work as cellular phone, fax sender, Web browser and personal organizer. One major advantage of using PDAs is their ability to synchronize data with a PC or home computer.
  • RDRAM  Rambus DRAM or RDRAM sometimes known Direct Rambus DRAM or DRDRAM is a type of SDRAM.
  • RLL   RLL (Run Length Limited) is an encoding scheme used to store data on newer computer hard disks.
  • SATA   Serial ATA (SATA) is a computer bus designed for transferring data to and from a hard disk.
  • SCSI   SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) is a standard interface for transferring data between devices like hard disks and tape storage devices.
  • SIMM   Single Inline Memory Module is a type of memory module used for RAM in computers. The bus from a SIMM to the actual memory chips is 32-bit wide.
  • Slot   Slot type processors are rectangular in shape and are mounted vertically like an add-on card into the slot.
  • Socket   Socket type processors are square in shape and fit into a similarly shaped socket.
