A+ Study Guide: Installing IDE & SCSI Devices

Length

SCSI Cable Length Limits

Devices are daisy-chained together with the help of a common cable and both the ends of the cable are terminated in a SCSI environment. All signals are common between all the SCSI devices.

There are two types of SCSI devices namely:

  • Single-Ended

  • Differential

Single-Ended Cable Length Limits:

In this case the maximum length of the cable should be 6 meters (basically for a connection within a cabinet). A stub length of not more than 0.1 meters is allowed.

Differential Cables Length Limits

The maximum cable length can be 25 meters (basically for connection outside the cabinet). A stub length of not more than 0.2 meters is allowed.
