Ethernet:
Ethernet is the most popular network type. It is fastest of the network types and can be the least expensive. Ethernet networks are very stable and your network speed will never fluctuate or be prone to interference like other network types are. Ethernet requires special cables running from each computer. These cables are plugged into a central 'Ethernet hub' or 'switch'. If your computers are far apart, running cable in an existing home may be difficult. Pre-made Ethernet cables come in sizes ranging from 3 feet to 50 feet. Ethernet can operate at 10Mbps or 100Mbps.
Phone Line:
Phone line networks offer a balance between speed, price, and ease of installation. These, utilize the existing phone line wiring. They do not interfere with the normal operation of phone lines for voice, fax or modem use. This network allows the same phone line wires in your home to operate your network and modem or voice call at the same time.
Wireless Networks:
Wireless networking is more expensive and often slower than most wired solutions. All wireless networks are subject to interference because of walls, large metal objects, water, pipes etc. Expect wireless networks to operate at about 1/2 their rated speed under all but ideal environments.
