Recovery CD

Recovery CD is a CD-ROM provided that can be used to access the data on the hard disk drive in case of an operating system crash. It is a bootable CD, which provides full functionality to programs that have access to FAT or NTFS partitions.

A Recovery CD can be used to perform following tasks even when the system has crashed:

  • Access important documents and files and back them up.

  • Rectify any operating system problems.

  • Perform partition and format operations if required.

The computer vendor generally provides the recovery CD. Sometimes they are provided as a package where only one of the CD will be bootable for initiating the recovery process, the rest are used during the process. Few other times the recovery CD's can be used to reinstall the operating system.
