The WINMSD utility can be used on Windows NT 4.0 and also on Windows 2000 servers and it offers information about the operating system as well as the hardware configuration.
WinMSD is very useful in documenting system hardware components and drivers it is the best place to determine possible system conflicts on IRQs DMAs I/O location ranges.
WinMSD is different from Windows Task Manager. WinMSD provides a static snapshot of the system health with an emphasis on devices. Whereas, the Task Manager provides, a dynamic view of processor activity, memory consumption, and currently running applications and processes. A WinMSD utility has following tabs Version, System, Display, Drives, Resources, Environment, Network, Memory, and Services. The information on these tabs is static & is captured at one particular checkpoint.
