Understanding Device Manager Error Codes:

On a Device manager all the Devices are listed in a tree with + mark next to each device category. On opening the tree it will list the devices and if any of the device has any issues it would indicate that using a Bang (Colored '!' Or ''?' or 'X')

  • A black exclamation point (!) with a yellow background indicates the device is in a problem state. The device might still be functioning.

  • A red "X" would indicate that the device is disabled.

  • A blue "i" on a white background would indicate that the Use Automatic Settings feature is not selected for the device and that the resource was manually selected. This does not indicate a problem with the device.

  • A green question mark "?" would indicate that a compatible driver is installed for the device but all the functionalities may not be available. This applies only to Windows ME.

  • Other Devices - A device listed under "Other devices" would indicate that either the driver is not installed or Windows was unable to locate the drivers for the device.
