The device manager is a tool included in Windows used to display and control the hardware on a computer system. In case of hardware failure or device driver failure the device manager highlights the device with a bang (either yellow or red question mark or exclamation mark). It provides controls and options to deal with the problem on hand and can even help in resolution.
In older Windows versions (95, 98, and ME) the device manager is available as a separate tab on the system utility. System utility can be found under Control Panel.
In Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP the device manager can be accessed using the button available on the Hardware tab on the system utility.
