
Boot disk is a floppy disk containing the essential files required to boot the system without loading the operating system from the hard drive. Boot disk does not necessarily be a floppy disk it can even be a CD-ROM, but such a CD is called a recovery CD, which is sometimes referred to as Boot disk. But in general usage a boot disk is a floppy.
This diskette can be used to fix issues, which may arise on the computer as well as can be used to help load MS-DOS. It is recommended to write protect the diskette to prevent possible computer virus infection.
Creating a Boot disk
Windows 98 boot disk is considered the best boot disk to boot to the DOS. It has a good collection of diagnostic files and files needed to access CD-ROM from DOS. To create a Windows 98 boot diskette open Add Remove programs (under Control panel), select the Startup Disk and then click create disk.
