Safe Mode with Command Prompt (Cont...)

This mode can be best used to run scandisk or similar diagnostic checks on the system.

In order to boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt, perform the steps mentioned below:

  • Tap the F8 key on Windows logo.

  • On the Windows Advanced Options menu Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt and then press the <Enter> key.

  • Log in as the system administrator.

Windows 98 offers another option called the DOS prompt mode. This loads an even sparser version of Windows than the Command Prompt Only option. The system files are not loaded at all. The files can still be edited using the MS-DOS Editor. However, Windows cannot be loaded as in case of Safe Mode Command Prompt Only option, where in by typing win and pressing ENTER at the prompt will allow the system to boot to Windows.
