Startup Modes (Cont...)

The system can be restarted in safe mode by using following methods:

Method 1

  • Restart the computer.

  • Keep tapping F8 key right after the POST diagnostics and memory count (after the system beep sound) or on the Windows logo.

  • On the Startup options Menu screen, choose Safe Mode & press Enter.

Method 2 using the System Configuration Utility:

  • Close all open programs when in Normal Windows.

  • On Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK to start the System configuration utility.

  • For Windows 98/Me click the Advanced Button on the General Tab. On the Advanced Troubleshooting Settings dialog box, check Enable Startup Menu. Click OK and restart your computer when prompted.

  • For Windows XP on the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and restart your computer when prompted.

  • After performing the troubleshooting steps undo the changes done on the system configuration utility.
