The system can be restarted in safe mode by using following methods:
Method 1
Restart the computer.
Keep tapping F8 key right after the POST diagnostics and memory count (after the system beep sound) or on the Windows logo.
On the Startup options Menu screen, choose Safe Mode & press Enter.
Method 2 using the System Configuration Utility:
Close all open programs when in Normal Windows.
On Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK to start the System configuration utility.
For Windows 98/Me click the Advanced Button on the General Tab. On the Advanced Troubleshooting Settings dialog box, check Enable Startup Menu. Click OK and restart your computer when prompted.
For Windows XP on the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and restart your computer when prompted.
After performing the troubleshooting steps undo the changes done on the system configuration utility.
